Starting off with a bang :
On 21-01-25 , a 5 Richter Scale magnitude earthquake struck Lesvos (on last Tuesday night), with its epicentre at the North coast , resulting in a few minor rock falls on the North Coast the main road. No injuries were reported, however having been present on the island for a couple of these, they are certainly very disconcerting.
The weather so far this month has been mainly dry and mild , with temperatures set to increase to double figures, leading to mild Spring like conditions. A few butterflies and carpenter bees have been on the wing this week (commencing 26-01).
A few late overwintering scarcer bird notifications, from e Bird :
Kalloni Salt Pans 18-01-25
Red breasted merganser 2
European golden plover 50
Black throated diver 2
Hen harrier
Merlin
Skylark 40
Slender billed gull 2
Several Dalmatian pelican's have also been present this week
Gulf of Gera 12-01-25
Slavonian Grebe 3
