Leeds Birdwatching Groups (1 Viewer)

Can anybody recommend a birdwatching group in the Leeds area. I was hoping to find a group of people who could help me improve my birdwatching skill level from its present "It might be a sparrow" to something more respectable.

Two groups worth getting in contact with are Leeds Birdwatchers Club & Leeds RSPB members group (http://www.rspb-leeds.ndo.co.uk). Both are well established, long running groups with good friendly membership, regular meetings and trips, and they'll help you on your way (they did with me 25 years ago!).
Not sure of a web contact/phone number for Leeds Birdwatchers. There's an email group for Yorkshire birders (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/YorkshireBirds) - maybe ask there and someone will point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Leeds rspb group trips this season are ALL saturday trips, the person to contact for bookings can be given via Pm for obvious reasons.
The meetings are on Wednesdays at the School of Mechanical Engineering, lecture theatre B, next meeting 16th November Non-members £4.00 entrance Time 7.30pm

In the hope that there are some people still subscribed to this site, and that there may be others interested in birdwatching in and around Leeds, I've decided to update this thread - I'm running birdwatching classes, indoor and out, in and around Leeds if anyone is interested

Just to prevent anyone wasting time looking for links to Leeds Birdwatchers' Club (mentioned in earlier posts), it folded last year after 60 years due to an ageing and declining membershipat.

The Swilly Ings birders are a very friendly bunch and I have always found them more than happy to help out with any ID questions. There is normally someone in the hide and it is well worth paying the £5 annual membership.

The Leeds RSPB group are also a great crowd and the programme of coach trips is pretty varied. I think you can find their details via the RSPB website and local groups section.
