Komz ZRT-457 Spotting Scope? (1 Viewer)

I recently came across an interesting spotting scope...A Komz ZRT-457. It's a 30-60x w/ approx 70mm objective.

Looks very unusual....So strange in fact it sparks my interest.

Does anyone have any experience with this optic?

I am curious how they perform in regards to resolution and image sharpness.
Are they a tinted glass? How is CA at 60x?

I saw one on ebay sell the other day for 105 Euro, and a dealer quoted me $203 for new one delivered..

I have some Komz binoculars, they all have excellent glass....Wonder if this is anything similar.

Hi,

no, I don't know the optics - nevertheless some hints and a link:

In general you want Made in USSR examples with soviet models - in this case marked by a grey body. The later Made in Russia examples often have quality control issues.

The scope is rather fast at f6.4 for a what is probably a fraunhofer so color is to be expected. The field of view is very narrow with 33 or 30 degrees afov at 30x and 60x or 19/1000m at 30x and 8.5/1000m.

A review in a german astro forum said the following: Small field of view, Tested example was not really sharp at 30x, 60x was ok. Visible vigneting at both magnifications. Reviewer suspects that magnification switch is reached by turning a lens or group and in his example this does not work very precisely and botches the image at 30x.

I'd say avoid if you want to use it.

Thanks Joachim,

It sounds pretty lackluster in the end... I took a look at the links you provided.

I think I may take your advice and find something else "about as interesting."

I do have one Russian "Spotter" a Komz ZRT-460 from '88. I guess it's enough.
