Kibbled Peanuts (1 Viewer)

The gaffer

Enthusiastic amateur
I have been advised that now is the time to start feeding kibbled peanuts to my garden birds so that they can feed the small pieces to their young (large pieces from whole peanuts can choke young birds).

Rather than pay a higher price and buy the peanuts already chopped I read a tip on Bird Forum about doing it yourself using a food processor or coffee grinder. I was suprised how easy this is to do and in a few minutes you can have a bag full of small pieces ready to feed to your birds. Its amazing how much the bulk increases once they are chopped up!

I have started putting the kibbled peanuts on my bird table over the last week or so and you wouldn't believe how fast they disappear!! Starlings especially seem to love them but all of the regular visitors to me garden are attracted to them.

I have just been out and bought another 2kg - I wonder how long these will last!

Hi,

They won't last as long as you think. I used to buy peanut nibs expensive and they didn't go down well, started grinding my own and the birds love them, different sizes means there is the right size out there for everyone, easier to eat than "blocks of wood" which one of our members called peanuts once.
