Kayak Color - Does it make a difference? (1 Viewer)

I intend to buy a river/lake/swamp-type kayak and one of the uses I intend for it is birding. Kayaks come in a vast range of colors and I'm wondering whether I should stay away from brighter colors. Does anyone have any info on this or any knowledge?

Should I steer clear of orange or red or yellow and go with a dark green or dark blue?

Any input you might have is appreciated.

When I got my canoe, I selected dark green, but a bright color might be a consideration if your in an area with fairly heavy boat traffic or in case you get lost in the swamp:) I've also use a red canoe and didn't notice that the wildlife paid any more attention to it than the green. Noise and quick motions (paddle flashes) seem to be more of a problem than color in my experience.

I wouldn't be too quick to discount the bright colours - in my mind safety would be more important than being noticed by birds. And they'll probably see you whatever colour you end up choosing.

I've gone birding in a brightly-colored Kayak, did not seem to bother the birds at all. I should also think that, if you are on open water, you will stick out like a sore thumb, no matter the Kayak's color.
