Karrimor Skido boots? (1 Viewer)

matt green

Norfolkman gone walkabout
Been seeing some of these in town reduced from £79 down to £39, are they likely to be any good for pottering about for birding?

Never had Karrimor boots before so thought I'd ask here, are they as good as Brasher, Scarper etc as far as comfort and build quality?

Cheers

not sure about how they compare with the other brands you mentioned but i bought a pair of walking shoes in the summer at a reduced price and they have done me fine on the strength of that i just treated myself to a pair of boots reduced from £99 to £49 unfortunately they didn't have the ones you mention in my size i got them from sports direct in ipswich by the way the £79 ones are reduced to £29 in sports direct if they have got your size they seemed to have every other one except mine
mine are called ksb 350 event
so heres hoping they are ok

cheers

Hi Matt,I bought another pair of Karrimor boots when I was over in Leeds(Blacks)in the August sales,a definite winner with Brasher socks.Must have done 500 mile already. :t:

Thanks for the replies folks, they sound like they might be a winner at the price...might pick up a pair tomorrow if I get the chance!! Slightly confused by the name though, went through the current online catalogue on the Karrimor website and couldn't find anything like the ''Skido'' boots, maybe sports direct is just flogging off old stock on the cheap!!

hi matt
the ones in your link are not the £29 ones that i saw which are a different design but were also originally £79

cheers

Had a chance to check out the above today, and to speak plainly they were pretty bloomin awful! The build quality seemed OK but the ankle support was way too high...they felt like a clamp around my ankles with two distict pressure points, now I know why other designs such as Brasher use a cut angled towards the back of the heel allowing freedom of movement without restricting support!!

Matt

well used mine today think they are different to the ones you tried
i had a pretty good yomp from the main carpark at alton water to the larchwood hide and then later from cattawade towards flatford found them nice and comfortable seemed to support the ankle fine didn't experiance the problems you had
feet don't ache to much now anyway

cheers

Another satisfied Karrimor customer here, but I do think it depends on which boot you purchase,I must admit I have never seen the one's Matt was talking about.

Hi there, I'm looking for a way to "break in" my boots. These are Karrimor waterproof event vibrams and although I have had them for C6 months now they are still cripplingly tough! How can I make them comfortable?
Regards

Are they a leather boot. If they are try the old trick of sitting your feet in a bath full of water (you sit on a chair outside with just your feet and boots in the water) for about half an hour. Then put on your normal walking socks and go out for good hour or so and walk the boots dry, they will mould easier to your feet. I did it with a pair of scarpa boots back in the early 90's and it worked for me.

Hi Andrew,
Never heard of that one before! Judging by your name, it sounds like you should know a walking trick or two.

Any way to get to comfy boots quicker has got to be worth a try.

Warm or cold water? and how long do the boots and your feet have to stand in it before walking them dry?

Best wishes
Martin

Hi Martin The water temp doesn't matter it's just to dampen/soften the leather so what evers comfy for you. The latest goretex/waterproof lined boots might not be so easy to soften up for this method but it has worked for me in the past and if your having problems has to be worth a try.

Hi there thanks for that, I have soaked them in warm water for about 20mins and then put plastic bags on my feet and started the walk. However it has taken a couple of days for them to dry so I hope they will now be a bit more comfortable.

Regards,

A good coating of Dubbin on your boots will keep them supple for ages and help with the waterproofing

Dubbin won't do a pair of modern boots like the Karrimor any good. OK for traditional leather but not for these types boot that combine "techincal materials" and what is usually a napped leather.

I had a pair of similar Karrimor to Lorne, and I think they'd be fine for "pottering about birding" -- especially for 30 quid or so; but I found them uncomfortable and heavy over distance and just not weatherproof enough.

I have a pair of Han Wag now and they're very very good.
