Java sparrows sex and colouration (1 Viewer)

Hello, I have 2 6 month old (roughly) java finches. I was wondering if someone could give me an idea on sex and why one still has greyish cheeks.

The one with the grey cheeks is called Zazu and the other is zero.

Thanks

Hi, I suppose you will have to wait for one's singing attempts, and if they are females, you needn't wait . . .
By the way, there is always colour variety in this species, and difference in condition. Besides, they are cage birds, out of order in BF, so if you release them, the admins here are prepared to really respond to your questions about exotic species. Cheers, Jan van der Brugge

I'll defend myself: "cage birds, out of order" is too subtle for nobody, I guess.
Cryptic? if aviculture birds are released, they can be treated in a thread in BF as exotic species; recently there was a rather lengthy topic on Painted Buntings in UK.
People treated in a harsh way, are discouraged to use the BF knowledge again, and i.m.o. everyone who is interested in birds should be welcome, most aviary keepers are nature lovers as well. You may call it soft, but I don't like seeing readers bluntly chasen away.
No offense meant, opinions are free.

The Painted Bunting is a potential vagrant to the UK, Java Sparrow is not and the discussion was in relation to a known escape and it's interesting migration.

The way you write is almost suggesting that the Java Sparrows be released, perhaps it would sound the same to you if I tried to write in Dutch or Flemmish?
