Dear BirdForum,

I hope you are all well. I was walking on Ivinghoe Beacon, Bedfordshire, Uk the other day and saw a bird I hadn’t recognised before! Hovered like a kestrel but the size of a buzzard. I have never seen a buzzard hover like this - maybe a juvenile? Any help would be hugely grateful! Video attached!

All the best,

Sam

Hi Sam and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Yes, Bewick is correct, Buzzards will hover occasionally, but not nearly as expertly, nor for so long, as Kestrels do.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing about the birds you see around you.
