1) Is this a female Yellow-eared Woodpecker or a female White-spotted Woodpecker? I thought it might be Yellow-eared, based on the golden tinge, less barring on the back and also the yellowish ear, rather than whitish. This was spotted at Donati Hotel (~950m elevation) at forest edge (rather open area).

2) Also spotted in Itatiaia NP, from Hotel Simon (~1000m). To me this shape looks like a juvenile King Vulture, but it appeared very dark. The head silhouette also gives me a King Vulture impression. Two Black Vultures where soaring nearby for comparison and this was obviously a much bigger bird.

Please comment! :)

1) I vote yellow-eared: barring doesn't seem to break up into spots in the breast area, colour is bright and there yellow on the nape
2) yes; white on wing lining visible
