Is this a leucistic magpie or blackbird? (1 Viewer)

Isnt the official name rosy starling? Either way, awesome observation, I'm a bit jealous!
Rosy Starling has the alt name Rose-coloured Starling. The Collins uses Rose-coloured, our Opus uses Rosy. Different authorities uses one or the other, but those that use Alt. Names give both.

Thank you for all your responses and help in indentifying this “strange bird”. I’m very lucky to have had such a good view of this rare visitor right outside my lounge window. Haven’t seen him today so he may have moved on. I do wish my phone had a better zoom though! Perhaps it’s time for an update….

Hi Gill and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

It's an awful long time since I've seen one sadly. The first one I saw was on Fetlar in the Shetland Islands, and he interrupted breakfast!! Our landlord came in to say there was one in his neighbour's field. My picture wasn't anything so good as your one!

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Thank you. I don’t spend as much time bird watching as I should. This year has been amazing though - because of the cold spring we were treated to a visit from a Kingfisher to our garden pond. Not able to catch him on camera, he was gone in a flash, but at least our goldfish survived the experience!
And this morning, looking out for the Rosy, I’ve seen greenfinches and siskins so I’m happy.
