I was playing in my back yard when I saw this bird in the grass. So I as I got closer and closer to it the bird didnt even move. Then I kneeled down and tried to pet it, I noticed that it had no eyes :eek!: Well its been over three days and that bird is still in the same spot that i first found it. I did however notice that its mom comes by and feeds it. So its getting to eat. I am just worried about this bird and would like to know if there is anything I can do to help it have a good life? Thanks in advance!

Hi, littlebuddy, and welcome to BirdForum!

The absolute best thing you can do is LEAVE THE BIRD ALONE. If the adults are feeding it, then its best chance of survival is just let them do their job.

It sounds like the chick may have fallen out of a nest, and that its eyes aren't open yet, not missing. If your parents can locate the nest and can get the chick back into it without stressing out the chick or the adults, they should do that.

Also, try to make sure no cats can get into your yard. If there is a problem with cats or dogs or other predators, the next best thing you can do is call a bird rehabilitation person in your area and have them take the chick.

Otherwise, just keep an eye on things and let nature take its course. :t: Keep us posted on how your bird family's doing, okay?

If the chick hasn't opened his eyes, then I would assume his feathers are just fluffy down with quills....then it would be possible to place him back into the nest without further disrupting the other sibs. I hate to actually suggest this, because it is a risky call. If the chick is fully feathered, then I would say it is blind and the odds aren't in his favor, because he has no clue what cover is. I'm guessing you are in the eastern part of your state (in or around the Smokey Mountains)....here is some rehabber information for you. Call them for further aide, and please give us an update.

Well I went out this morning to check up on him. He didnt make it through the night. It was raining too so maybe the rain go to him :( The bird did have a fully devolped set of feathers, he was just missing his eyes. I took pictures of him when he was alive yesterday. If I can ill post them up here. And yes I am located in eastern tennessee. Thanks anyway!

Hi littlebuddy. It sounds like you did everything humanly possible without interfereing and I'm sorry the outcome wasn't better. If you can upload a photo here, it would be interesting to see just what type of bird it was. Thanks for caring. :t:
