I caught a bank vole in my attic (2 Viewers)

I was checking the mouse traps in my house today and was surprised to find a bank vole in one of them. Even more surprising was that it was in the roofspace of the house. Presumably this was linked to the recent cold weather but it's not something I've heard of before. Has anyone else ever had voles in their house?

I’ve heard of Bank Voles living in attics once before, in late summer. The person who told me was a mammal expert and if I remember correctly, they were living in her house.

I think the house was covered in Ivy and she blamed this for allowing the voles to enter.

Makes a change from mice anyhow.

I don't even know if we have any voles over here. But, I've caught enough shrews inside my cottage. Heart breaking to find the poor little souls.

This is at ground level, by the way. I don't have an upstairs or accessible roof space here.

Never heard of voles in a roof space before though. Wood Mice? Plenty!

I know this is not to do with the voles but we had mice for a time last year in the loft and found that the way that the seemed to be coming in was up the side of the boxed in waste pipe [think this is the right description] We got a large bundle of steel wool from B&Q and packed it around it since then all has been quiet and no sign of our little friends.

Bank Voles are good climbers, habitually going up bushes after fruit in late summer and leaves and buds in early spring. They wouldn't have any troubel going up Ivy.

There are Bank Voles in Eire, brought from Germany in a load of soil for some building project IIRC. I don't know what their range is but I guess it is expanding.
