Humpback's in the North Sea (1 Viewer)

The ORCA reports I have seen from the north sea only reported one humpback whale seen on their surveys. It has been mostly minke whales and WB dolphins, but they did see those sharks reported in that news report.

Just one Humpback from the North Sea ORCA surveys, the report must have mixed numbers and species.

We did have 40+ Humpbacks between Tromso (Norway) and Spitsbergen on a recent ORCA survey though - a much higher number than I'd expected for those waters!

There was one Humpback in the last couple of weeks, photographed by a passenger on the Newcastle-IJmuiden ferry. I've had a few interesting e-mails in the last couple of days, following this piece of incredibly poor journalism :t: The figure of 30 Porbeagle Sharks, is another number simply made up by the press.

Research by ORCA using the Newcastle to Amsterdam Ferry have recorded 30 to 40 Humpback Whales plus numbers of Porbeagle Sharks off Newcastle & the Yorkshire Coast.

A bit lazy on my part. I thought it sounded too good to be true and would have only taken a couple of minutes to check out. Typical journalism!

The world record for rod caught Porbeagle Shark was off Scarborough if I am not mistaken as were the records for Tuna.

Rumours that they have returned surface from time to time. The driver being that because there are fewer 'big' fish like cod there are more of the tiddlers for these to eat...

Mmm.... there was that dead seal with a big lump out of it last year (or the year before...) maybe some of these rumours are not far off the truth.
