How to stop Peacocks attacking cars? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I live in a village and for 9 years have had problems with peacocks freely roaming around gardens and cars as if they own the place and no one really knows where they come from.

I have a serious problem with peacocks as they have started attacking and sitting on cars around here. My next door neighbours car bodywork has been ripped to shreds all the way around the car and it took him 6 hours with rubbing compound and T-cut to repair the damage. Also they have been doing a war dance around mine and flapping its feathers hard onto the body work and currently hasn't used its beak to damage. They have also been known to sit on the roof in the summer.

Basically i'm begging for help on stopping all this damage as you can only use rubbing compound on a car a few times and it's getting ridiculous now!

What can i do to stop these birds if anything as it's driving me crazy and i can't look out the window every 5 minutes?

Thanks for any help.

Hi SnoopZ
Welcome to the forum
Probably not the answer that you want but short of wringing their necks there isn't much you can do. Peacocks are particulary stubborn/stupid, they will go where they want, eat what they want, cr@p on what they want and generally chew up what they want.
They are too big for a fox to tackle so there are no predators that can do the job for you.
I used to work in York and the birds from the Yorkshire Museum Gardens used to tour the city centre on a morning eating anything that they thought was edible, and doing other 'things' everywhere. Flower baskets etc were not safe at all, they'd be stripped and cr@pped on in no time.

Thanks for the reply and it's the kind of the answer i was expecting unfortunately. I've started throwing buckets of water over them out of anger hoping they will remember not to cross my path again. I had resorted to a car cover but the damn thing blows off in wind so i'll buy a bigger one tomorrow.

Thanks for your help again.

I was thinking of sitting in the car and putting it into reverse as soon as it walks behind! But then i'd have to clean up the mess and might get into trouble.

Rumour has it they (2 currently) will disappear next weekend so i'm hoping its true, however there will be more eventually and it's only in the spring/summer.
