How to see Exif data (1 Viewer)

I struggle to see exif data on the shots in the gallery. Do you have to anything special to see it such as save the file (not thumbnail) to the hard disk?

On WPF forum (sister one to this I think) there is a link to the exif data for each picture (if it exists of course)

I use FxIF, it's an addon for Firefox. You just view the image, then right click and select Properties.

Note, this will not work on Internet Explorer, only works for Firefox.

Don't most people use "Save for web" when saving images for the gallery, and doesn't this strip out the EXIF data?

Well that assumes that most people use Photoshop. I can't afford Photoshop, and I suspect I'm not alone. There are plenty of free programs that do much more than most people will ever need them to do:

Gimp
Paint.net
Nero Photosnap (not free, but part of Nero)

There are many ways to resize an image without losing the Exif data, most are free (2 examples I already mentioned).

Personally, I use Photosnap for all my image editing.

Thanks ChrisKten for FxiF (and Frank for Opanda)

Added FxiF to FF but you still have to save the file before being able to view the Exif data which is very time-consuming.

Is there any good reason why there cannot be a link to see Exif data as there is on the World Photography Forums site

I don't save the file, I just click on the thumbnail, wait for it to load, then right click Properties. Actually I'll go check on a photo in the gallery.

Just checked, works as I explained for pictures that have Exif data.

As to the Exif data link, I third it.

I am a bit confused. See the bird in this photo (a crcaking photo BTW) http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/171925/limit/recent
Right click on thumbnail - I just get a square box up with 'Element Properties'
Save image as and open it in Windows gallery and I can see the Exif data on right-clicking and selecting properties.

I have added the FxiF add-on to firefox and restarted my browser

I just tried it with the link you posted, works fine for me. This is the data I get:

Camera Make: Canon
Camera Model: Canon EOS 40D
Image Date: 2007:12:20 07:20:33
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 700.0mm
Exposure Time: 0.0010 s (1/1000)
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO equiv: 400
White Balance: Auto
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: program (Auto)

Thanks all. Th eFxIF add-on had not installed proeprly because it does not support the latest version of FF (3.0.9) that I am on
I have added another FF add-on Exif Data which does the trick. I will experiment with Opanda as well

I will also raise a suggestion in the suggestion forum re a link to see exif data

John
