how to properly store Carl Zeiss Jenoptem binoculars? (1 Viewer)

hello,
I recently received some Carl Zeiss Jena Jenoptem binoculars that I would like to put into storage for a while.
The binoculars have their leather case.
The binoculars have no fungus, no mold, no dust.
They are very good condition.
The binoculars seem luxurious and deserve quality care.
Is there a safe and proper way to put the binoculars into storage for a while, to avoid problems?
Maybe place one of those charcoal packets that come with some new products, in the case?
The storage area is dry and in the house.
Thank you.

Hi,

The best conditions are :

Below 70f temperature
Below 60% humidity.

Do not store it in the leather case - leather can be a haven for fungus.
Sunlight will help keep fungus at bay as UV kills it.

The problem with the small sachets is that yes, they absorb moisture, but they need regular drying (in an oven for example) or they will just get saturated with moisture and then do more harm than good.

garymh... thank you for the kind and appreciated wisdom and advice!
I was concerned about storing the binoculars in the leather case.
I will keep the binoculars separate from the case and both will not be in storage.
I'll likely even keep the case, which is in great condition, on a shelf with the top open.
I will only use the case when we travel.
I must say, the binoculars have brought a wonderful difference to our lives. They are 10X50 Jenoptems. For many years we never considered bringing binoculars along with us for hiking, trips, etc. Recently, when I got the Jenoptems, we started to use them while hiking. My girlfriend is consumed with them. Now they are the first thing on her list when we go out for adventures. The binoculars have opened up another world for us. When I scan the scenery while changing the focus, it is like a video. Our explorations are a lot more fun with Carl Zeiss joining us.
Thank you for the reply.

Great info! Thank you!

Second the views above. The worst way to store is in the case where no light and humid conditions will ruin your optics. Keep it in the open space and with sunlight. Your specs will survive a long time.

I'm just going to jump in here and wish you a warm welcome from those of us on staff here at BirdForum (y)

Hi,

first of all, welcome to birdforum!

A multicoated pair of CZJ bins can still offer great views... although a Dekarem (or Jenoptem 10x50 which is the same with another name) would not be my first choice as a hiking pair... but maybe that is just me being a bit soft ;-)

As others have noted, not putting them in storage, keeping them out of the leather case most of the time and just use them will be best...

Enjoy the view!

Joachim
