How much seed a week? (1 Viewer)

Pat
How much seed (or other kinds of bird food) do you buy a week? I spend a minimum of $10 on the birds each week which usually gets me about 8 kgs of seed and boy do they go through it fast (sometimes I have about 10 doves all on the one feeder at once just eating 1 seed every half a second |:p| )!

And also how many feeders do you have in your backyard? I have 1 big feeder out back (which the majority of the birds go to) and one feeder on the balcony which has artificial nectar to attract the Lorikeets.

Hi Padda,
Yes, it can be an expensive hobby.
I have a "feeding area" its a rickity old tree with plenty of branches at all directions and levels.
I put a variety of food and feeders on the tree including hidden tubs of mealworm.
Some of the fat feed & nut bags will last up to 3 weeks but the seed only lasts about a week.
I buy it by the kilo. I probably spend £20 a month but that's not including the rest of the wildlife commitments. (i'm not even going to go there!)
See ya

Well, I will be spending a TON of money if I don't handle this squirrel problem I'm having. Otherwise, as I mentioned in another post, I buy supplies at a local store where the prices are EXCELLENT. Beautiful seed mixes (cracked corn, peanuts, sunflower, millet, etc) are just $5 per 25lb bag.

Hi Pie,

I know it's a fair way from Cardiff, but if you have an excuse to get out to Llandovery, the garden centre there does a really good range of seed and feed at excellent prices. A 20kg sack of mixed wild bird seed is only £8.99 and a 20Kg sack of peanuts (certified Aflotoxin free) is £18.99 - pretty good compared to normal garden centre prices!

I don't think I will tell you what I spend on seed for fear of being considered eccentric :eek!:

Awww, c'mon, KC, I'll tell you my seed budget if you'll tell me yours. ;)

Ours is into the low 3 figures every two weeks. And that's buying everything at Wal-Mart, the cheapest place 'round these parts. :eek!: is right!

Last months Bank Statement told me I had spent £42 on mealworms!
