House finch abandoned eggs (1 Viewer)

Hello,
We have a house finch nest in our front door wreath and it's been about two weeks since the mom has been to the nest. This is her second set of eggs she has laid in the nest. In the spring we got to enjoy the watching of her nest and give birth and feed her babies. It was amazing! But now she came back and layer four eggs and sat on them for a few days then hasn't been back. I don't know what to do. I'm so worried about the eggs and her. I have no idea if she is still around as our area is full of wild birds singing all day long. Any suggestions? Do I leave the eggs. Will she come back? Please help.

Birds abandon their nests for all kinds of reasons, particularly early in the nesting cycle. Or maybe your bird's been predated or come to grief in some other way? If it were me, I'd give it a few more days to be on the safe side, and then remove the nest; if she comes back for another try, she'll build a new one quickly enough. That said, it's getting rather late in the season for starting a new breeding attempt. . ..
