Horrible screeching noise! New Hampshire, USA (1 Viewer)

There were 4 birds that were soaring over our heads yesterday, primarily black, with feathered wing tips. They made the most horrific screaming or screetching noise you could imagine! I tried to ID the birds, but could only come up with Ferruginous Hawk as a possibility, as their screetch sounded exactly like what we heard. However, we live in New Hampshire and they are not "supposed" to be here! Any ideas? They tended to soar in circles above a pond near our house, but have also been in the trees too!

Thank you very much!

Welcome to the forum.

How about Bald Eagle? They wouldn't be black, but sub-adults could be mostly dark brown.
