Hi Everyone! Thanks for accepting me in this forum. (1 Viewer)

Hi!
I wonder if you could help us with this little one.
We rescued a baby magpie-lark last Tuesday. By the way, we observed the bird for about 2 hours before taking the decision to rescue her. She was on the ground at a parking lot, no shrubs around, her neck twisted, dogs and people going pass and we saved her a few times from being stepped on.
I checked her body and under her eyes and she does not seem to have injuries, tumors or parasites. She (we call he she) is eating very well, but her neck bends all the way down and her bick up. Only sometimes she keeps her body straight (mainly to eat), but she cannot stand on her perch.
I think she may have some damage from falling from a nearby tree, but not sure :(

Hi Beatriz and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. We have some general guidelines here for the care of injured and baby birds. But judging by the pictures, this one would appear to be in need for urgent professional attention. Most vets will examine wildlife for free, or contact a wildlife rehab who may take over from you.

Please let us know how you get on.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi Delia, thanks for your response. We will take it from there and will let you know.
Unfortunately, we have had very good and some bad experiences. Among the bad ones, we had a case where vets decided to euthanise without even consulting with us. The animal was not in pain and we could have taken care of it. So, I am a bit skeptical :(
But will give it a try.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly group. I think Delia has given good advice. Hope everything turns out well.

Thanks for your welcome Lisa. We followed Delia's suggestion and took the little one to a nearby bird vet. They were really understanding and confirmed our suspicion regarding a possible neurological problem. He is doing better and we will check in a few days before taking any decisions.
