Help with sites for Blanford's Rosefinch (Carpodacus rubescens) (1 Viewer)

This bird seems to be widely distributed from NE India into central China (Sichuan). Having travelled to a number of sites where the bird has been recorded and come away unsuccessful I want to try again this coming spring. I would really welcome some advice in particular locations which would give me the best chance yet. I visited Mandala Top in Arunchal Pradesh in march this year. So not the best timing particularly because it rained and was thick mist for the 2 days I was there. Sela Pass area (Early May) is perhaps another site but I am a little wary of the reports on ebird which tend to record this bird in sightings seen on the day. The day generally meaning a tour from Dirang to the pass itself. I would really appreciate it if someone knows a more specific location eg the altitude previously seen or information on a track which could be tried which may be leaving the road.

I feel your pain, and it's the biggest frustration there is with the "I don't care" data format of ebird that many are defending beyong all logic.

Anyways, luckily there are better databases that have a solid data standard, i.e. the Darwin Core Archive.

Unfortunately those databases are less widely used so loads of people keep inputting tons of birds into ebird that no one can ever reproduce and often results in fruitlessly searching for a birdneedle in a hotspot haystack.

Here are some more useful data points for Arunachal:
27.2842, 92.1792 (mid may)
27.4779, 92.1136 (beginning of april)
27.6301, 91.8349 (mid may)

some more from Nepal:
28.4963, 83.1585 (mid may)
28.7836, 83.9671 (november)

It's not a lot but I'm sure 1 exact coordinate helps more than 100 ebird hotspot sightings.

Thank you temmie. I had not heard of the Archive. I will explore. The Nepal sites are interesting. Sites which don't require a permit unlike Arunchal are more attractive. Particularly sites in China which are so much easier and cheaper to get to.
Thanks and I will try and let you know how I get on.
