Help with Habicht SL 8x56 (1 Viewer)

Greetings to the forum.

I just picked up a Swaro Habicht SL 8X56 bino at a gun show this past weekend. It seemed a lot of glass for $500. Optically they are fine, but:

The tension holding the interpupillary distance is a little loose, and there is just a tad of play in the focusing adjustment. Can these be easily tightened up? It's nothing I can't live with, but if there is an easy fix, I'd like to know.

I assume these predate the SLC, but I haven't been able to find much out.

Hello!
Swarovski has an excellent reputation for customer service.
I suggest to get in touch with them directly to have this problem fixed by the professionals at the manufacturer's facilities.

Cheers,
Tom

Good advice from Tom. There are no user serviceable parts in these.

Yes, the SL series Porros predated the SLC. I bought a pair of the 8x56 SLs in the late 80's. As I recall they cost about $500 new in those days. They have very simple optics; cemented doublet objective, cemented Porro cluster and 3 element eyepiece. Their weak points for birding are a very slow focusing mechanism, a narrow 46 degree apparent field and 26' close focus. The 8x56 was the only SL equipped with roll down eyecups for eyeglass wearers.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help. I called Swaro, all I need to do is send them in. Repair, inspect, clean and adjust, all gratis! They just said "warranty work." Great service! These glasses, per Swaro, were made in 1990. They are the green rubber armored version. I wish all products were backed this way, but then all products would cost as much as Swarovski.

Wonderful news. :t:
Yes, the warranty is included in the Price, but it is nevertheless reassuring to know there are some companies (... is A company ?) that still cling to the old "customer is king" :king: philosophy. This principle seems to be an "endangered" species nowadays.
