Hi, hoping you can help?! This one has me stumped. It was a fleeting shot of a bird of prey, was moving very fast over our allotment. Seemed larger than a Kestrel with longer wings and flight path was different. Sorry about the poor images as grabbed phone quickly! any help appreciated, thanks in advance! (y) :)

Hello,
welcome to birdforum from me, too!

Despite your feeling, that the bird was larger than a Common Kestrel, it is one imo.
Please note, that judging size of lone birds is often hard and failable (thanks Butty!). But after downloading and brightening the pictures, I see a good colours for a Common Kestrel (and I assume, that you noticed this in the field, too, when I read your post correct). The vaguely reminiscent head pattern of an American Kestrel (which is smaller than a Common Kstrel) is mainly due /or at least enhanced by picture quality/sharpening artefacts (you will soon learn, that this term isnt meant as an offence. Just a reason, why pictures seems to show features of other species).

Welcome to birdforum again!
