HELP!!!! Nikon Coolpix P5000 Lens error ! (1 Viewer)

Penny Clarke

Well-known member
I am currently on holiday on Fair isle and my Nikon Coolpix P5000 has packed up!

I was walking along with the said camera in my pocket when it suddenly started making a very loud clicking noise. On inspection the lens was only partially out and would not extend fully out. I have tried loads of stuff, putting new battery in, taking memory card out, tapping camera VERY firmly! physically tried to get lens out myself. Holding shutter release button down at the same time as the 'OK' button. I now give up.

I have my two SLR's so its not the end of the world, but this camera is so useful for that quick picture required and is excellent for macro pictures, video etc etc.

The camera is out of guarantee.

Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

I don;t own or know anything about this camera , I tried googling "coolpix 5000 lens error" and the first couple of hits provide a few suggestions you could try

Hi Penny, I have one of these! I think this happened to mine a few months after I bought it. Fortunately it was just in Warranty and I sent it in for (free) repair - from memory it was sand/grit in the mechanism which stopped it functioning. Looks like you might have to send it in and bite the bullet..... Sorry!

Have you been keeping it out of it's case? Using it on the beach?

Hi Jon

I normally do keep it in the case, but on Fair isle I have been keeping it loose in a new coat pocket, which only has the camera in it!!!

Have packed it away and am trying very hard to forget about it! Trouble is I suspect its not going to be worth mending. Also annoyingly I use this camera for digiscoping and it means all the attachements for this camera may not fit a newer model. Also I like the fact that I have a view finder on this camera - I notice on the latest coolpix model that it does not have a view finder.
