Help 2nd bird id in Ocosingo, Chiapas (México) (1 Viewer)

Let us hope someone more expert than I will offer an opinion, but I will suggest it is a Greater Pewee.

I think the choice is Wood-Pewee or Greater Pewee; the primary projection, lack of wingbars, and tail length are most compatible with Greater Pewee. Was it singing "José Maria"?

I agree it's not a Wood-pewee. But I'm not entirely convinced it's a Greater-pewee. The throat is very clear compared to the dozens of Greater-pewee photos I have seen. And the frequency of sightings in the region is very low. But if there is no other suggestion I will accept it. Thanks

Well I think the throat looks quite clear on this, the first of ebird headline greater pewee images:

What we're not seeing in your image is the typical spiky crest of greater. The only other species would be (n) tropical pewee but your image gives me the impression of a larger, heavier bird. But I guess not impossible

On location alone you can likely rule out Greater Pewee. It's a highland bird. I don't see anything that would make this not a Northern Tropical Pewee.

I'd suggest N Tropical Pewee is a better fit than E Wood-Pewee due to the fully orange lower mandible. Probably also much more likely considering the date. I'm not sure if you'd still have Wood-Pewees there on that date? My guess is not a lot of them if any.

The sighting was in mountains with tropical forest, in morning, at +/- 8:30 am
The elevation is 1,183.33 m and it is close to the road, I saw it when I went to the bus.

At that elevation not so easy to toss out Greater on elevation alone ;)

I would still lean towards N Tropical or E Wood. There's enough variation in the Tropical Pewee group and it's been long enough that I don't have a strong handle on them off the top of my head. A quick look at eBird suggests the date range is fine for E Wood-Pewee as well.
