Heat Wave and Tree Swallow nestlings (1 Viewer)

Hi. I’m in northern Maine and it is not often we get really hot temperatures over 85° but this week we are going to hit 101° for 3 days straight, hazy hot and humid.
My tree swallow in a nest box just hatched 5 little babies. I’m in a panic as to how they are going to survive the heat.
The nest box has venting under the roof and is wood. It gets direct sun for 3 hours a day only on the right side.
I’m so worried everyone is going to perish. I was wondering what I can do. I have a bird bath and will be keeping the water fresh, I also have a fountain mist for them nearby. Not too close. I was thinking on covering the nest with a wet towel?
I mean if it’s 101° outside how hot will it be inside? I’m worried sick!

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

It’s not a good idea to do anything to the nest box as interference could make the parents abandon it.
