Hawfinch is my next quarry where? (1 Viewer)

Nikon Kid

Love them Sula Bassana
Hawfinch is my next quarry, where can I get good close up images of them, from hides or in the open, I live in Peterborough UK will travel for best pics anywhere.

Thanks for any information

Hate to mention this ( :t: ) but when I lived in Peterborough in the late 70's-early80's I picked them up in the trees on the golfcourse by Goldie Lane @ Ferry Meadows, and they were supposed to be in some of the private woodland around there.

The last sighting of Hawfinch on the Peterborough Bird site at Ferry Meadows was 6 years ago, cant wait that long :-O

I suppose I need a guarantee of seeing them so travel is not a problem in UK

As you live in Peterborough try Lindford arboretum in Norfolk ,not a long drive and regular reports usually mentioning the paddock aera.

From what I've heard they're usually distant at Lynford, so as a photographer I wouldn't bother.
I was lucky enough to digiscope one in Herts this year, but these few birds haven't been reported recently.

Lynford is one of the best places to get this very elusive bird! but there is a 50/50 chance!
The best plan is to spend the whole morning there, early to after midday!
Good luck a right boggy for me!

I'm looking through the window as i type this, watching 3 feeding in my garden. A very common bird here, but Greenfinch would be a rarity for me here, so its horses for courses i suppose.

Last year was thinking about going to Spain, this year I am thinking again, but what puts me off is the price, will have to look into it again, nice shot that hurts.....

I might take a ride over to Lynford Arboretum in the week, its only 60 miles form me, just to have a look see, anywhere I should concentrate on, best place......

Thanks for all the replies.............

.................................................................or maybe my garden ;)

I've just had a quick 'phone around' and there are 75 of us (mates & wives) flying out to your place tomorrow. If you can have the bacon butties ready for 11.00 it would be appreciated. We dont need beds as we are bringing sleeping bags.
Thanks

Hi Terry,
I read an article in Birdwatch recently saying they were present at Clumber Park, Near Worksop - Up the A1 a bit from you.

From memory they can be seen near the old chapel.
