Hard shell or case for Leica 8x32 Ultravid HD (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

Noob to the world of binoculars. Just picked up the Leica 8x32 Ultravid... and it was quite pricey.

I'd like to buy a hard case or shell to keep them safe while traveling or stored at home. Or in a hiking backpack.

It's surprisingly hard to find a case that will fit.

Thoughts??????

One observation, you won’t see many birds with your binoculars in your backpack ;)

I have my emergency Hawke binoculars live in a “Tupperware” box in the boot of my car as protection, they very very rarely leave the car.
When I fly, etc. I have my Swarovski binoculars in the manufacturer’s case in a backpack - same on a ferry (obviously out of the backpack if I’m outside on deck).
In the house, my Swarovski binoculars are in their padded case and tucked into my underwear drawer.

It’s really hard to find a case that fits. I’ve searched one for my Nikon monarch HG 8x42 and bought a Thule Legend Go Pro Case. It fits good and I bought some foam rubber as an Inlay. Just search on Amazon for go pro cases, travel case, Bluetooth speaker case whatever could fit. Although camera cases and camera equipment manufacturers do sell cases in sizes that could fit. E.g. LowePro, Thule, Crumpler and so on.

I believe the hadshell cases that come with hawkes frontier range are available to buy as replacements via their website, had one myself and seem pretty well made..the 8x32 frontier Ed x is about the same size as your ultravid so should be plenty snug..

FWIW, The supplied Leica soft case will protect you binocs very well.
Any hard case is overprotection and WILL interfere with your usage.
The soft case when correctly fitted stays with the binocs and is always avilable.
My wife has 8x32 HD and I have 10x32 HD.
I much prefer the 8x.

Is there any specific reason why you tuck your binocular in your underwear drawer  ?
.
It’s historical.
60 years ago I got a tiny transistor radio for my 6th birthday. We didn’t have much money as a family and it was extremely precious (to me). I had one drawer of my own in our shared bedroom and that’s where I put my most precious belonging.

So, in summary, my most important belongings (passport/binoculars) live together in a drawer and I see them every day, and therefore always know where they are !!

Just a daft old bloke thing, but some habits are hard to break ;)

Thank you for your reply Mike C, nice story! I understand it, I also keep my pasport, keys, flashlight and other important belongings together. Because I travel a lot I keep everything in a small messenger bag, in this bag also lives my precious Leica 10x25 ;)

Pelican best but a good padded camera case works, and you can add extra padding;
but in 25 years of using binoculars the only mishaps I had had was the binos falling off
my gummed up head of the tripod and a person grabbing it with fingers on the objective.
Both were minor.
