Green spider, Cyprus (1 Viewer)

I'm no spider expert but body shape looks good for genus. We have a few green spiders too but nothing else like your suggested species. I was aware of other species in the genus, but no idea if they are in Cyprus.

It is a Micrommata but I don't know if M. viriscens is found in Cyprus! I do know however that the similar M. ligurina is, so that would be my choice!

I have a book Shane, '60 Cypriot Spiders' which is where I got my ID from.

Shane, A pdf of all recorded species is available here.

Micrommata at page 121 and virescens is described as 'new to Cyprus' which means that your suggetion is most likely though why it would be in the book?

Hi Andy

If you go to page 121 and click on the identification link, it takes you to Spiders of Europe. On there, you can access the gallery and see photos for both M. ligurina and viriscens. On the female ligurina, there is a black patch near the base of the prosoma that matches your photo but this doesn't appear on any of the viriscens photos!

Alternatively, you can get there via this link: araneae - Gallery
