p.s. Another Mother Shipton and a Cinnabar on Sunday.

Hello Graham,
It is a Pyralid moth, one of several dozen species to be found throughout the summer wherever grass occurs. Possibly Crambus pascuella.I would need to see more of the moth to be positive.

Agreed, this one usually rests head facing down. The angled stripe near end of wing gives the ID away for me, before looking at other features. I probably should try clarify, its that stripe and the absence of other detail.

Hi Angus,
I'm not going to argue over either your or Chris's ID, but I would point out several grass moth species also have that angled stripe.

Yes I knew I was opening can of worms in mentioning that as I was typing, and its misleading to others. Its just my way. Other considerations are general colour, size, shape, all collectively come under the term 'jizz'

OOOOOOH I hate that word 'Jizz' it's sooooo unscientific. lol.

Thanks to all for your help with this. I'm gradually geting an eye for spotting moths but the ID work is slow to follow.

Regards,
Graham.
