Ghillie Suits (1 Viewer)

Having recently bought one of these for the sole purpose of Wildlife Photography I cant say how impressed I am with it.I have used hides before but they needed to be placed in advance to allow your subject to get used to it and on public land they risk getting stolen.I wanted something that I could wear but remain concealed for long periods and would also allow me to be mobile.It also breaks up the human shape a lot better than sitting in a square or a dome hide.Cheap too,I paid £40 for the jacket,trousers,hood and rifle/camera cover.
The pics below are an example of what I mean.
The first was when I was shooting Kingfishers on the weekend and the second was at a Fox earth yesterday evening.The tripod legs havent been camouflaged to show where I am.
The third pic is me getting into character to play Modern Warfare 3

I have one and find it great when i go out onto the marsh -iv even had birds try to land on me, iv had Herrons and little Egretts walk within 12ft of me
You do have to keep very still and quiet though.

I would love to get one,but it's over 80f here for 7 months of the year,so tooooo hot to wear.
I wear a realtree camo netting bug suit instead.

On a related 'ish' topic I used some "one way: pigeon netting for the first time over the past fortnight - sewed up along one edge, left enough room for the lens to stick out and then just sat down behind the tripod with the net over me and it.

Two people walked past within ten feet and didn't see me and I had birds literally on my feet at one point. Might have looked a bit daft but brilliant to get such good views and a few good shots - example attached [lightly cropped].

Might be good for situations where a full ghillie suit would attract unwanted attention :eek!:

All I can find on Google is netting to prevent pigeons landing on buildings.

Hello BarryH - the one I got is: REALTREE AP HD CAMO MESH HUNTING NET - around £15 I think - there are others called clear view net I think - works surprisingly well.

My Ghillie Suit arrived yesterday & as it's a clear, sunny morning, I'm just about to head off now, into my nearest wood, to try it out.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, my new Ghillie Suit, paid for itself today, on its first trip out, with these lovely shots of Long tailed Tits that I got this morning! :t:

One word of warning though, don't try & walk through a patch of Brambles wearing this suit! ..... |=(|

P.S. I've since had loads of forest Robins & Tits coming within a couple feet of me & even a Red Squirrel that close, too, although it was rather agitated.

However, after just a couple of weeks, I'm getting some lovely shots of Red Squirrels & Sparrowhawks, I just need a little more practice & patience though, to put one over on the local Jays.

When before a bird/wildlife photo shoot do you get into your Ghillie suit? without members of the public seeing you :-O Do you get into the suit at the photo location or just get out of the car and walk to where you need to be in your Ghillie suit:eek!: Great photo's on here and thanks for sharing.

Depends. If you are stalking deer, at the car, if you are doing a stakeout somewhere, perhaps after the walk in.

Either way embarrassment is not an option!
