Frog Spawn can it be moved (1 Viewer)

My Daughter has moved to a new house recently & has a small pond in the garden, she would like to have the pond filled in but it as some frog spawn in it.

I'am wondering if it is OK to move the spawn to another pond. Anyone with any ideas on this matter.

Should be fine to move.

I would agree with that. I have frequently given some of the spawn in my ponds to other people - with no problems at all as far as I can see.

I think they recommend that if you give it away it is only done locally- ideally in the same postcode area. This is to try to cut down the spread of disease eg red leg disease.
Having said that, why not encourage her to keep it, at least for one year. She will probably fall in love with it and the frogs.

My Daughter, like myself, loves wildlife but with two young children she thinks the pond holds to much danger. We are taking the spawn to a large pond in a local park about a mile & a half away. Thanks dampflippers for the imformation.

Yes, you can move the frog spawn. But move it to a pond that already has spawn, and to a pond that looks healthy. Best way to get the spawn out is with a bucket, sweeping under and up. You probably won't get all the spawn. You would probably be best looking for a pond as near as possible. When I lived in Sheffield we were moving spawn every spring as garden ponds became over run it.
