Hope that someone will be able to help me? I have had a Wynnster, Aquastop fleece for many years and it has been fantastic. It* only let me down when one winters evening I was doing some arc welding and angle grinding and as a result of sparks and hot metal the fleece now has burn marks and scorch marks on it in various places. This and the fact that it is RED, bought when I was mainly into hill walking and to enable me to be seen easily, means I am after a bird watching friendly fleece in green.

I would like a similar fleece, aquastop or water resistant inner, zipped outer pockets, high collar and IF I could find a fleece with a zipped outer chest pocket that would be great.

has anyone seen such a thing? I am not keen on the look or price of the new Berghaus soft shell jackets which only seem to come in black.

thanx in advance

dave

* Actually I let IT down, sorry fleece.

Hi, Just did a Google and got the enclosed - Looks like the "Fern" might do you.

Thanks Stuart.

I did see that one and as my original Wynnster has been so good I will probably go for it in Fern.

I found out today that Wynnster have been taken over by Euro Hike. MAy make their stuff harder to find, shame as it is great kit.

A lot more expensive but I use a Paramo Tiempo fleece, four zipped pockets, long length, good hood.
I've found it well worth the expense as cheapo fleeces are either too bulky, have no hood, only two pockets and often aren't windproof.
I also have a Berghaus Choktoi windstopper fleece which I must sell as I never wear it - no hood and it's not comfortable if the weather suddenly warms up.

+1 on the Tiempo , great pocket set up , a very useful design all round .
Not cheap, but very very good.

I looked at the Country Innovation website and they have the Kestrel waterproof/windproof fleece jacket that is a pullover with a large front pocket like you requested Dave. Here's the link. Quite pricey though.

I have a simple pullover shell with a large front pocket and I find it very functional for birding. However, mine is not waterproof or windproof and doesn't provide insulation.

thanx for the input. i have looked at the CI smock style fleece, and I find that smock tops do keep you warm but due to the lack of a big front opening can keep you too warm. The paramo fleece, I have used their top layer jackets for years, is somehting i shall go and try on, seems odd having a fleece with a hood though.

have emailed wynnster/eurotech to see what their current range is and if they have a suitable fleece.

cheers

I see you are now sorted, but just for info' , the hood on the Tiempo can be removed if not required, it is held in place by press studs.

Hi im guessin this is a little late but for anyone looking for a superb fleece thats quiet, warm and has nice useful pockets id definetely go for the swazi back 40 shirt.

Certainly the warmest fleece garment i own and has nice little design features that really pamper to someone looking to spend a while outdoors.

Fleece

Hello,

I still use Polartec.
P 200 fleece jacket from Marmot.
P 200 trouser e.g. for skiing or P 100 from Four Season ( house brand of www.globetrotter.de ).
This fleece will get wet I there is heavy or longer rain.
In this case I use additional rain clothes.

Softshell I did not use yet. It should protect more against rain, but it breath not so good.

In warmer areas or summer I use small microfaser trousers e.g. from Odlo.
( jogging trousers )

Best regards
Dieter
