First Butterfly of the year? (1 Viewer)

Peacock butterfly disturbed today whilst emptying out a shed. A bit later it was flying against the window and starting to get tangled in old spider webs so I shepherded it towards the door where it flew off strongly and disappeared into an ivy covered tree.

Got my first today. A Red Admiral flying in the mild sunshine along the Centurion Way, near West Dean in W Sussex. A Platycheirus albimanus got the hoverfly yearlist going too, and a Yellow Dung Fly was probably trying to tell me something by landing on my leg. Had a frustratingly brief smallish (carpet sized) geometrid moth flying past too.

FWIW “Pete”the Peacock is now departed, came into the house (during a high pressure period in late June), and has finally succumbed on the window ledge this week.
I was hoping he/she might make it to the Spring…but alas😩

Yes, my first active butterfly of the year was a Brimstone today, too
My wife has just come back from the shops & seen a male Brimstone by our front garden but then disappeared. Frustratingly I've spent much of the day in the front garden lowering a hedge & other than great views of one of our local Red Kites, nothing of note. Still no butterfly for me!

Last year had January & February Red Admiral sightings.
