Female Carib Grackle in Florida? or other type?? (1 Viewer)

The only brown type I found on Wikipedia says from Venezuela. But it doesn't sound like they migrate to US.

Taken 2/28/09 at Merritt Island Nat'l Wildlife Refuge near Cape Canaveral.

Thanks in advance for any help.

As others have said, Boat Tailed Grackle. Common in Florida last March when we were there, good photo

Hmmm

yesterday, I saw a dozen of these (I think) in a parking lot in Miami.

1 was peckng at the bottom of a car door around the rubber seal, as if someone might have dropped some food in the car. As it was pecking, small pieces of something kept falling out onto the ground and the bird was eating them up then pecking some more, etc.

When they flew, the remained surprisingly low (3 to 5 feet off ground).

I wonder if they were the same bird and if they get hit by cars a lot???

Ah!...it seems that that type of bird spends a lot of time walking on the ground....magpies, mockingbirds etc....all somewhat annoying but always around. Not good flyers either, more like coasters....they just get up and go and coast from one spot to the next. I never see any of them being hit by cars though. Mockingbirds appear more friendlier than Magpies but Magpies are really spooked easily...
