Female Cardinal Repeatedly Flying Into Window (1 Viewer)

hello everyone! i have a cabin in the Catskill mountains where a female cardinal obsessively tries to fly into my windows. it perches on a nearby bush, then goes straight into the window, trying to get in/through. then she flies over to another window and tries to get in there. i have seen this behavior for several weeks now when i visit on the weekends.

any thoughts on what she's up to? is this behavior harmful to her, or just sport? is she attacking her own reflection trying to protect a nest or something?

thanks so much! :D

What it is doing is fighting what it considers a usurper in her territory. She doesn't know that it's her reflection.

The best thing you can do is to try to eliminate the reflection. I had to attach some screening on the outside of the glass of an upper window that the birds were seeing their reflection in.
