any ideas anyone?, we have some baby new potatoes which we can't really use, does anyone have an idea how i could quickly cook them up to give the birds an extra treat

i know they can't be fed to the birds raw so any recipes gratefully accepted

thanks in advance

Try frying them in breadcrumbs! Seriously the only birds I know that will eat raw potatoes are the pink footed geese at Martin Mere. The potato's are given to them by the ton but thats in winter, I'm not sure if birds will eat them at this time of year (even mashed!) when food is so plentiful.

Mashed, boiled or baked but the only takers here, when we have left overs are the Starlings.Every other bird gets on with the other feed we supply. However, if it is left over it goes out (if a safe food).

I've found blackbirds, magpies and starlings enjoy potatoes that have been boiled and chopped up, more so in winter.

Yes, plain boiled left over potatoes or mashed potatoes go down well here. As does plain left over cooked rice and pasta.

english/house sparrows love french fries. They used to be at every McDonalds parking lot waiting for handouts...not seen too often now though...maybe because I don't eat at McDonalds anymore...lol

Apparently ducks such as Mallards go mad for potatoes. Farmers sometimes put any dodgy potatoes out that they have left and the ducks enjoy them even more when they are on the turn for some reason.
