Feeder with new perches (1 Viewer)

Has anyone bought the new Defender feeder from CJ Wildbird Food Stores yet?

It is a nifty little design, with the birds seeming more at ease when feeding, as the perches are designed as a "ring" to sit on.

By the way, full marks - again - to CJ Stores for their swift delivery. I've never encountered problems with them. Top marks. And no, I don't work for them!

Yes. Mine's just arrived - seems such a good idea, that the birds can face the food, rather than having to turn sideways. Looking forward to seeing how they react to it.

I haven't seen these - there weren't any like this at RSPB Pulborough Brooks last week, nor at WWT Barnes the week before (where I bought a new Droll Yankee feeder). Are these Droll Yankee too - looks like I'll be starting my Christmas list soon!!!

It looks like a good design. With the birds facing inwards there's less chance of the lower ones being "bombed", which will hopefully reduce the risk of salmonella etc.

They do look good don't they? I noticed them in my new CJ catalogue that arrived last week. Isn't it annoying though as I have just splashed out on a new feeder (old design). Grrrr.

Call me 'Mr Cynical' but i dont remember the birds having a problem with the 'old' style feeders.

Somebody also mentioned the spead of disease but the new feeders appear to have ridges on the rings where i can imagine a lot of food and general crap would build up.

I think i'll be sticking with the ones i've got, re-inventing the wheel and all that.

On second thoughts, I've decided these feeders might make it too easy for the birds - they're eating me out of house and home anyway.

I was thinking the design does look more "Starling-friendly"! Are the rings plastic? I'm just wondering how long it would take our friendly squirrel to gnaw them off.

I noticed them online. It's deifinitely an interesting design, but those feeders aren't exactly the cheapest out there and I've just bought three new feeders anyway. Oh well, better start the Christmas list early!

No, they are the Defender feeders, "squirrel proof". Worked so far for me, and I have a large family of squirrels.

Another point, I don't have starlings, so on that front I have no worries.
