The book 'A field guide to the birds of Taiwan' Forestry Bureau, gives volitans as the race here but, that seems not to be recognised by the IOC so which is it?

Given that brunniceps apparently occurs both to the north (Japan & Korea) and south (N Philippines) of Taiwan, and is migratory, it seems reasonable to think that this would also occur on Taiwan.
Personally I suspect the taxonomy of this species is not properly resolved in the region (or, in fact, globally). We seem to have two subspecies here in Hong Kong (based on biometrics, plumage and seasonal occurrence patterns) but are only officially in range for tinnabulans from published lists.

I saw that in the Clements data, but didn't know that ssp. was migratory. Good info, John.
