Eyepieces for a Celestron Ultima 80 (1 Viewer)

Hi folks,
I have a Celestron Ultima 80 spotting 'scope and the 8mm-24mm zoom that came with it. I would like to find a 32mm eyepiece that fits it that wont break the bank. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Also as an aside, does anyone know the thread sizes on the Ultima? For some reason it's NOT a t-thread! I have no idea why Celestron (or the manufacturer) thought this was a good idea as the existing thread is SO close to a t-thread I can't believe they didn't make it one!

Thanks in advance

Hi Gordon,

"For photography, removing the soft rubber eyecup from the eyepiece exposes standard photographic T-threads. You can attach a 35mm camera body to the scope simply by threading an optional inexpensive T-ring onto the eyepiece and connecting your camera body to the T-ring. No separate camera adapter is needed. The scope becomes a fast 480mm f/6 telephoto lens with a camera attached."

... so it looks like that thread IS T2 !

Can't help with EPs though, sorry. Shame they aren't std 1.25" eh :C

Yes there is a T-thread on the end of the supplied 8-24 zoom eyepiece, but I was hoping to change that eyepiece for a 32mm perhaps to reduce the magnification a little. Obviously standard 1.25" eyepieces dont fit

I've read that the Baader Hyperion eyepieces are compatible with the Celestron Ultima spotting scopes.

Baader Hyperions are superior eyepieces the costs unbelievably low. Sadly, they don't have a 32mm.

You are correct, my 8-24 Baader Hyperion Zoom that I use with my telescopes fits my Ultima 80 perfectly. Unfortunatly I already have the 8-24 zoom that came with the 'scope! The longest prime focus eyepiece the Baader Hyperion line comes in is 21mm (albeit at a 68 degree FOV)

I was looking at this very same scope at B and H in New York City the other day, and this is exactly what the salesperson said. He recommended the Ultima 80, then he mentioned this feature for adapting a camera on. He popped off the rubber eyecupper and said you just screw on the T-ring (which sells from most places for $16). A fine scope that turns into a makeshift telephoto lens for $195? Not bad.

Gordon--Looks like you did the same as I--unscrewed the top of the eyepiece. The threads which attach the rubber cup to the zoom lens are awfully close to a T-thread (probably are outside diameter t-threads). Instead, just lift off the rubber cup; the threads there are standard t-threads.
