European Herring gull? Ireland (1 Viewer)

Probably be a quick one!
Accidentally got distracted by this gull.

Jan 13th, North Coast, Ireland.

  • Sloping forehead
  • Eye towards front of the head
  • Smiling gape
  • Green tinged bill with small spot on the bottom mandible
  • Full black p5 band
  • Hooked bill tip
  • Strange tongues on underwing primaries

interesting bird, tfs!

And I agree with you its a Herring Gull:
  • Mirror on p 10 is small (away from the long white tip, not disturbed by presence of a subterminal band) and a mirror is lacking on p9. Both bad for Caspian Gull
  • too little black in the wingtip for most Yellow-legged Gulls which shuold show a broader black band on p5 (and p6) yes, thanks Lou again
  • classic pink legs, some Caspian Gulls have yellowish or grey-yellow ones
