Duck with mallard's green head, brown body (2 Viewers)

Hello,

Just got back from my local park (Greenbank in Liverpool, UK) and in addition to the usual mallards, Canada geese and tufted ducks was a curious newcomer.
No photo I'm afraid, but its build was that of a mallard, with the same green head, and its entire body was chestnut brown, apart from the breast which was white with some black horizontal streaks.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

hi
just wonderin where about in liverpool Greenbank is? i live in Liverpool and am always lookin for places to go. Is there a variety of birds there?
thanx

Greenbank Park is near Sefton Park, just go up Greenbank Road, not too far from the Palm House.
Hm, didn't realise it was just a common mallard, thought it was a different species as I've never seen that colour scheme before.
As for bird types, just mallards, Canada Geese, plus the occasional swan, coot and, this winter, a few tufted ducks.
That said, i've seen people describing all sorts of birds occurring in Sefton park that I've never seen there so it could just be me being unobservant.
