Dragonfly Identification (1 Viewer)

I struggle greatly to identify my dragonfly and damselfly images. There are a few things about this dragon that confuse me and thought I would find out what the people on this forum think. I should say the image was made in the central USA near a typical marsh habitat.

I appreciate any help.

Have a great day,

Hi, Wayne,
It's not the easiest angle for dragonfly ID. Did you take a dorsal shot?
I know next to nothing about US dragonflies but it does look quite like the cover shot of "Dragonflies through binoculars". Unfortunately, the cover photo doesn't seem to be credited! My guess would be widow skimmer
See http://www.dragonhunter.net/widowskimmer_m.html.

Dragonfly ID

Thank you to Surreybirder and Assayer for identifying my dragonfly picture. You have it right on. The book I compared it to IDs it as a Widow Dragonfly so I would believe it to be a Widow Skimmer.

Thanks again,
