(former alias "Calalp")
Here's a quick look at the eponym ...
guillemardi as in:
• the debated species Sulu Cuckooshrike, alt. subspecies (of the Bar-bellied) Cuckooshrike, Coracina (striata) guillemardi SALVADORI 1886 (here, in text):
• the (Hair-crested) Drongo ssp. Dicrurus hottentottus guillemardi SALVADORI 1890 (here), as "Dicruropsis guillemardi":
• the (Red) Crossbill ssp. Loxia curvirostra guillemardi (von) MADARÁSZ 1903 (here), as "Loxia guillemardi":
And that's it. All three (as far as I can tell) commemorating the same Dr. Guillemard ...
Though, the reason for this thread is due to the simple fact that there are different claims, in various sources, regarding his Birth year. Some (most) has his Birth year as "1853", but others are way off, with "1875" ... !?!
For example, see Pittie (2023*), who has him (on page 506) as:
Contrary to Jobling's Key in which this eponym used to be explained as (at least in late April of 2022, when I last checked it):
However, if we read the Obituary (from 1934), after "Francis Henry Hill Guillemard", published in The Geographical Journal 83 (4): pp. 350–352, we find that it starts with the very words:
Which would be in line with the Paper by Gábor Magyar (2019**), in which we're told (in detail) that Dr Guillemard was born on the 12th of September 1852, in Eltham, UK.
Is this correct? Or not?
Anyone who have seen an official Birth Record?

Note that Salvadori's OD have one single reference: "Dicruropsis sp. [sic] , Guillem. P. Z. S. 1885, p. 571", taking us here, to "DICRUROPSIS, sp. ?", written by Dr. "F. H. H. Dr Francis Henry Hill Guillemard (1853-1933) British geographer, zoologist, traveller (subsp. Coracina striata, subsp. Dicrurus hottentottus, subsp. Loxia curvirostra).
[As I cannot find a thread dealing with guillemardi I assume James have been working on this one himself, off-BirdForum]guillemardi
