Downloading Bird song onto MP3 player (1 Viewer)

Hi, I have a Samsung MP3 player (one with an integral speaker). I would like to download the 4 CD 'Bird Songs & calls of Britain & Europe so I can have a reference when travelling abroad. The actual downloading of the songs seems no problem, but I don't seem able to access track titles from the internet. Just having 'Track 1, 2, 3, 4, etc' on the gadget's screen rather bird names somewhat undermines its usefulness. Any suggestions how I can resolve this problem?

Strewth SiG that was quick! Thanks.

I think that if I say "What is iTunes?" - only a slight exaggeration of my level of (in)competence - then I think you get some idea of the technological idiot you're dealing with here!

I use iTunes to manage all my digital recordings as I only have iPods as mp3/4 player. Alongside a vast amount of music I have the Wildsounds CDs, and the Geoff Sample stuff, and the free CDs that The Independent issued all on there, and on my iPods. When I first input the Wildsounds CDs and the Geoff Sample iTunes couldn't identify them from its online Gracenote database, so I laboriously entered each track name, album detail and Genre (Birdsong) myself. This effectively then entered them into the Gracenote database, and so, if you were using iTunes, you'd find - as I've seen others find - that the CDs are "recognised" and a full track listing happens automatically.

However, I'm not sure how easy it is to use iTunes with other types of player such as your Samsung, nor how other mp3 file management programmes access track information - perhaps someone else could advise here? If a little reading around suggests that iTunes would work for you to manage your digital recordings then at least you'd know that these birdsong CDs would be recognised and it might be worth setting it up.

I have the Wildsounds 'Roche' 10 cd set. Rather oddly, two or three out of the ten came up in English but the rest didn't. I couldn't find any other way of resolving the issue other than re naming everything myself, then transferring it all into mp3 format. It was i right pain in the backside but once it's done, it's done. Good luck!

Graeme.

I think most media players e.g. Windows Media Player will access online databases to get tracklistings. It's unusual to find CDs that aren't on the databases, but if not then you'll need to rename the tracks manually. This is a bit of a pain if there are a lot of tracks.

Thanks, one and all. That's 396 tracks to rename - I don't think I've the patience! Thinking about it I don't really need the grebes, ducks, BoPs, waders, etc but I'm not sure I have enough patience to rename the 200 or so tracks covering the rest! I was hoping for a 'quick fix' - I'll try the iTunes site (or more accurately I'll probably ask my daughter to do it!),

I'm pretty sure that when I downloaded the same CD set using (I think) Windows Media Player it automatically found the track listings. Try the following on your computer (making sure that it's online):
Open Windows Media Player
Put CD in
Hopefully, it will then find the names automatically
Rip the CD
Go to 'Sync' to synchronise with your MP3 player

Sounds like good advice: I've never used WMP for this purpose but it seems as though it works the same way as iTunes (which otherwise converts mp3s to a different format for iPods which is why I think it might not be as suitable for your Samsung) and would be what you need, John.

I think that's the route I tried a while back with no success - perhaps it's been updated,

John, just checked with my copies and it was Gracenote that had the listings when I ripped the CD's, there was a bit of editing needed as the file names were in several languages, I just cut out the non english names.
If still a problem I could forward the mp3 files, less than 256 Mb for the 4 disks. I'm not sure if it is possible to just forward the id3 tags.

Thanks Keith - I will investigate this option,
