Hi again,

Last saturday, 26th march 2011, I went again to the Delta del Llobregat Natural Reserve (Barcelona, Spain), to the area known as "Maresma de Filipines", to try to see the lesser scaup that was there last week. I was not lucky, but anyway there were lots of birds there. Migration has begun in Barcelona. You can see the complete list of species seen, and some pictures in my blog, in:

A very nice man showed it to me. (I wouldn't have seen it ;))

A very nice Glossy Ibis too.

Public Transport Delta LLobregat

How do you get there by public transport from Barcelona or from the airport ?

Let me See....Two spaces conform the natural area of the Delta..The North part ,called "Espais Naturals del riu"..and the south part, mentioned hera ,called FILIPINAS/ el Remolar(named after the campings that used to be there..)...To go to the espais,If You are already in El prat(to go to El Prat, there are many Buses and also Train), you can get a bus to the cemetery, and You will be very close to the entrance, about 3 minutes to the parking lot...The Get to the other part has always being complicated ,plus that area has been in constant change with the expansion of the Airport...right Now I was told by one of the volunteers, the best way to get there is to go the Airport, and then catch a bus for Airport workers, that runs constantly between the terminals and the workers parking lot .From there i was told there is a path and a short walk...
I have meaning to do a trip documenting the access by public transit to both spaces and post it here, with timings, pictures, etc, but havent had the time..I will though ,pay myself a visit to El Remolar, pretty soon using this Airport Parking Bus and let You all Know about It...

was very difficult to find when I went, I had intended to go to the airport and catch a taxi to Cal Tet, but the taxi drivers had never heard of it, nor had the information centre in the airport, eventually, i took a train back to El Prat, then a bus (with a little bittern picture in the window!) but didn't get off it in time and ended up trying to find the place along the beach, just nudists there, but it was worth it once I finally got to the reserve in the middle of the afternoon.

What part of the reserve You visited?..the L10 is a bus I have taken ,because comes straight from the train station in Hospitalet, where my train leaves me coming from El Vendrell, where I live...but doesnt go THAT close to the reserve..When I use this bus,I have to walk 15 minutes to get to the ESPAIS NATURAL DEL RIU..The north part of the reserve,by the river mouth..In the bus driver own words ,when i asked him for the nearest stop to the river..."NO::THERE IS NOT A STOP NEAR BY::SORRY"..Now..this is bus driver standards..birder standards are different ,used as we are to do some walking...,the stop at BARRIO DE LA BARCELONETA is 10-15 minutes, connected with a PEDESTRIAN TRAIL-AGRICULTURAL ROAD SHARED PATH,and goes straight there

FROM EL PRAT TRAIN STATION---,bus PR3 (hourly)goes to the cemetery...the last stop is three minutes from the spai natural of the river...this is THE NEAREST You can get by public transit to the North part,(ESPAIS NATURALS DE EL RIU)

more in Filipinas-Remolar to come......

Hi there....Finally made it to the Filipinas-El Remolar ...unfortunately was a super low day since the lagoon was dry and they had done lots of cleaning work the day before ,thus making all the birds fly away ...next week they will open some irrigation channels to fill the lagoon and maybe some more activity can be observed...the other site,Espais NAturals" was also low, compared with last week superb activity days.(Eleonora´s Falcon,Black-Necked Grebe,...Black stork..Ok,I am teasing, the Stork was there few weeks ago!)
Anyway...Good News is that is VERY easy to get there,to Filipinas-eL Remolar, And It is Safe ( i was told of perilous walks along the road!!!)and only a short walk(500m)away from the bus....the Bus Stop is called "employees Parking lot",and It is one stop before ANY Bus going to Barcelona Airport Terminal 1,gets to the terminal...There are a number of buses going to that terminal..even the Airport shuttles going to the terminal 1 from the Airport train will get you there, but the Airport train is NOT cheap,so better get a bus in Plaza España,or Plaza Catalunya going to the Airport .I took a bus in Viladecans ,near the Viladecans Train station..bus number V99...From Viladecans there is also a NICE bike path STRAIGHT into the naturla space. You could then ride your bike along the water line until the EL Prat beach, and continue all way to the other side of the Airport to Espais Natural..I will post a list of ALL buses making this stop soon, and will post a simple map of the way to get there after you leave the BUS..is just there...

Arriving to the reserve

Hi,

Finally I have been able to find information on public transportation to the reserve ( bus 65 and 165 from plaza España, in Barcelona city, and L10, PR2 and PR3 from el Prat de Llobregat train station). You can find the information here:

http://www.portadeldelta.cat/com_arribar.php

One of the new taxi waiting areas is just in front of maresma de filipines. So, taxi drivers should know it. Cal Tet is more difficult to them to be known.

Remolar-Filipines (Barcelona,Spain) in February 26th, 2012 (Spoonbills, flamingos,..)

Hi:

Last February 26th, I visited the Remolar-Filipines Reserve in Barcelona. There was a group of about 28 flamingos, together with ibises, spoonbills, lots of ducks, etc.

One of the flamingos and one of the spoonbills was ringed. The flamingo was born in Delta del Ebro (Tarragona, Spain) in 2007. The spoonbill was born in The Netherlands in 1996. In my blog (http://arodris.blogspot.com/) you can see the history of both birds, together with a report on the day. Data on both species can be obtained from the likns that I have added just after the flamingo picture.

Regards,

Antonio
