Hi everyone,

I’ve been looking at birding tours in Costa Rica. Has anyone been on the 16 day self drive tour with Aratinga? If so should any sites be omitted and others inserted? Is February a good time to go?

Many thanks for replies and help! Best regards CCR

Mouse over sections on the map to see the amount of rainfall and time of year for different parts of the country. There are two dozen regions with differing amounts of rain at differerent times of the year. The bird life is dependent on the native plants growing in an area and so this varies as well.

In most cases the local guide at a lodge will know far more about where to find what than a guide with a tour group. Easy to email ahead where you plan to stay for a day or two to arrange the services of a local guide for the day. A lot of bird life is best observed from a small boat and during the dry season their ability to navigate the rivers is greatly reduced. Costa Rica has been experiencing a long drought much like most of the world thanks to global warming from animal agriculture.
