Costa Rica Rainy Season – Monthly Rainfall Map
Costa Rica's rainy season is traditionally from May into December but precisely how wet it is depends on when and where. The rainfall map shows inches of accumulation for each month of the year in a dozen regions.

There are two dozen regions with differing amounts of rain at differerent times of the year. The bird life is dependent on the native plants growing in an area and so this varies as well.
In most cases the local guide at a lodge will know far more about where to find what than a guide with a tour group. Easy to email ahead where you plan to stay for a day or two to arrange the services of a local guide for the day. A lot of bird life is best observed from a small boat and during the dry season their ability to navigate the rivers is greatly reduced. Costa Rica has been experiencing a long drought much like most of the world thanks to global warming from animal agriculture.
