Chiffchaffs not Chiffchaffing (1 Viewer)

Evening all

I hadn’t really heard a chiffchaff if you know what I mean until I heard it as we came into real birding later in life. Since we’ve heard one last year all I seemed to hear was a Chiffchaff everywhere we went.
All of a sudden no Chiffchaff- Chiffchaff but we picked up another sound like a hueeet call every couple of seconds. Bugged again by a sound we searched to find out what was turns out it’s a Chiffchaff!

Do they stop Chiffchaffing in the breeding season and hueeet then and return to Chiffchaff- Chiffchaff after?

Thanks, Rees

Roughly, yes, Rees. But they usually don't sing in autumn or winter; they start again in March (when most of the males arrive). In fact, in winter there are very few here at all.
