Caspian Gull? from Denmark (1 Viewer)

hi kent,

your bird at least appears not to be a pure caspian or lets say, what we expect a good caspian to look like. i can see the long legs compared to the adjacent HGs and the colourless rel. slim bill. but it is not really long and not really pointed at tip (upper mandible curves rel. strongly as seen in the yawning pic). and yes, caspian gull can have a slight winter head striation, most apparent in mid autumn after postjuvenile moult. on jizz i'd agree there's a certain herring gull feel about it, but considering the points you mentioned in the text, it could well be a hybrid argentatus x cachinnans. but we won't know that unless it is ringed 'cause a hybrid can look like one of the parents or it can look intermediate. but a pure bird also can look "intermediate"... so an open wing to see it's p10 pattern would have been helpful here.

all the best,
