Can anybody tell me a website where I can check the serial numbers for Carl Zeiss Binoculars. To be specific DDR Carl Zeiss Jena multi-coated Jenoptem 8x30w binos.
Thanks
B :)

Hi,
Try Peter Abrahams site: http://www.europa.com/~telscope/binotele.htm
Look down the page until you get to Zeiss Binocular Production Numbers, which is a file listing the serial numbers year by year. Your Jenoptem is a Deltrintem model, which was built under that name from 1920 to 1990. You should get the build year from the serial number. Note that there was a thriving business making Zeiss 7x50 replicas, but nobody built fake Zeiss 8x30s, to my knowledge

Hi,

Just got a pair of Carl Zeiss Jena 6X30 with serial number 1484950.

With the information from http://www.europa.com/~telscope/zeissbin.doc that means they were produced between 1928-1929 if I understand the serial number concept.

Any way the optics are pretty good with no columnation.

If I have read the serial number info wrong can someone please point me in the right direction as to dating these.

Thanks

Hi. Sorry to activate an ancient thread, but Europa.com no longer exists. Does anyone have a current serial number/model/year website?
I seem to have a line on what I believe may be a pre WWI Zeiss/Jena DF, with serial #142,9xx.

Hi superc,

I've attached a copy of the table from the Europa site that was referred to earlier.
The problem is that it implies that Zeiss numbering was for more consistent across time than it was.
And those who specialise in Zeiss binoculars are aware of exceptions.
Nevertheless, it's a starting point, as there does not seem to be a more comprehensive generally available resource.

Hi guys,

Any idea on year of manufacture of my zeiss 8x20B.. serial number is 320736 I can’t seem to make sense of the table above.

Thanks,
James

Hi,

Note that this list is for Zeiss  Jena products only.

These numbers do not apply to Zeiss products from West Germany

Hi everyone, I'm new here, i was after some information in regards some ( Carl Zeiss, JENA, Deltrintem 8 x 30 ) binoculars i bought.
I'm trying to find the date they were manufactured, I've seen the link to the table already, The serial number that is on my binoculars is 1529448, if i have understood the table correctly, my binoculars were made between 1929 to 1930.
Would that be correct?, I've heard about fake one's, is there anything i need to look for to determine if they are real or fake one's.

Any help would be most appreciated

The fake ones you ask about were not actual fakes. They were made for Zeiss Jena under licence.

The only ones that were supplied under this arangement were Jenoptems , so your Deltrintem is not a "fake".

Hi thank you for you're help, That's good to hear.

I've managed to date my binoculars, by cross referencing three different source's, and other mean's. and using my serial number, I'm more than 95% sure they were made mid to late April 1934. and they are in full working order in very good condition, a bargain for £45.
But the case they came with (i am lead to believe), is for the Carl Zeiss Jena Binoculars Telex 6x24 from the 1920's, my binoculars fit inside the case fine so im happy.

Many thanks
